Okay, so you have all probably read Kate’s post about the suckiness of our schools Internet
admin. Well, you would think that it couldn’t get worse – I mean, have my site blocked, cos’
the images were controversial and alluring… to have Blogger blocked – which stops me from doing
any internet ranting at school (Unless I type at home and post here)?
BUT YES – It can get worse.
How you may ask? Well her it is…

The other day I logged on the computer, waited fifteen minutes for it to load up, then wait
a further five minutes for the internet browser to load, I typed in my password, and started
typing in an address that I needed to go for, for an assignment. A message popped up across
the screen.

Access Restricted
You are not able at this time to browse the Internet, due to access restrictions in your account.

So, I figure I need to “BUY” more net time, yes – here at Craps Ville high, we have to pay
for print credits, and Internet time – if we run out. So I came to school the next day with
a couple of bucks, and did the long routine, to let me access the net, I c went to log on later
that day, and the money had still not been put on… I mean it doesn’t take long to go in and
say “This person paid this, here it is in your account!” – But no? I had to wait till the following
day (NOW!) So I came in, once again needed the net for research. So I log on, and again the
big bold message comes up, sending a dagger to my heart (Or the head of Mrs. XXXXX) so, I trod
up the stairs to the admin office, and say – Umm… my money is in there (cos’ I checked the
account balance) but it still wont let me surf!? WHY???? (Well I said it nicer than that actually)
anyway, I then spoke to Mr. XXXXX and he told me that I had used too much Internet time within
the week. Yes sad to say I used .5 (point five!
) too much downlands. I told him it was for school (most of the time) and that I needed that
access for my heavy SACE subjects… he said he would like to see the assignments later, but
he would put me back on, cos I paid for time, and I did have assignments to get through. BUT
COME ON – point five, what’s the Point of kicking me off for that, it is ridiculous, add that
with the surveillance system and it feels like you are logging in to Albatraz.
I said to Kate after her Blog, I don’t know how I would top her entry, well I found a way!
HUH!? So yes, there’s my rant, not much of a new rant compared to Kate’s, but hey it is a start!
Well, I have just tried again to log on and it seems to be working, lets see if I get monitored
and get every other site banned too?

STUPID, STUPID, STUPID.

Fixed the Blog, for some reason you have to repete the / code for the header before the main blogger section (Now I know only a few of you understood that, so I will leave it at that) I have also ficed a few things on the Blog - Re: Links. (Well atleast I think I have......)
Knowing my luck, it isn;t and the blog links are still shitted... the coding is there but no effect!? GRR ARG

HATE HATE HATE...
I hate the network administrator at our school.
She is a horrible, privacy invading person with bad hair.
I don't like her, and I want her fired.
Ok. I'm gonna try to explain a bit, but first I have to calm down. Breathe in. Breathe out. In. Out. Ok, feeling better now.
Today I was using the schools internet during my free lesson. I was having a quick look at Luke's site, and then doing some work here. I added the chatterbox, and ranted about my current living location and Kane concerts. Anyway, I was logging back into my Blog when Mrs. XXXXX entered the room. (I wasn't in the puter labs, I was downstairs in student lounge / councilor's offices / thingy place.) She seemed really interested in what I was doing, so I told her I was having trouble getting blogger to load, to which she answers "Yeah, I just blocked it."
Then she proceeded to comment on the sites I'd visted earlier. "Some site called 'Black Naughty Something..." I told her it was Luke's site, and that it was not porn - the title refered to a Buffy episode and Faith is entirelly clothed. Then she started on about what I'd wrote here "You swore in that thing you were typing..."
Here it was that I started to realise that she'd been going to every site I'd been going to. But no - it was worse. Apparently, there is a little program on the network that lets the admin access anything a user does. Not just internet - Word documents, emails, everything. And the second I logged on she started watching me.
I feel violated. I could have been writing an email to a friend sobbing about my love life and she would have read it. The computer I was using was the ones the councilors send students to use - to research job placements, and to access self-help websites. Ok. So I wasn't doing anything particually private - hell I was ranting on a public website. But I had checked my email before that, and I had read email from a pagan list I'm on, and whilst I'm not exactly secretive about my pagan-ness, I don't advertise it, and now she (could) have read my email as I was reading it.
Not only is this JUST PLAIN RUDE, but this is also a massive invasion of my privacy and against privacy laws. I understand that this type of software has to be there - I for one certainly don't want some wacko researching bomb making at school - but this was a massive mis-use of that technology. They've already had this out in the workplace, but when it comes to schools, people never seem to remember that STUDENTS HAVE RIGHTS TOO. I'm not some giddy school girl. I'm legally an adult. I voted in the last two elections. I've done a hell of a lot for this school - I was the editor of the school mag for two years straight (I resigned two years ago, but i've been called in to do last minute 'rescue work' since then.) I've stood up for Mrs. XXXXX when other people have bitched about her.
And what do I get? This massive invasion of my privacy.
Tomorrow I'm marching right in to the computer head's office and I am complaining. If I do not get an apology, I will be writing a formal letter to the Principal and the School Council.

Ok, so I won't be completely bored may 15, cause I'm going to see the midnight session of Starwars, so I'll be bouncing around the house all day doing the 'I'm going to the midnight session of Starwars' dance. But still. KANE. IN CONCERT. AND I CAN'T GO.
